Papple Steading Development, East Lothian
Project Overview
Papple Steading is a remarkable restoration and redevelopment of one of East Lothian's most significant historic farm complexes, an ambitious project that has transformed former agricultural buildings into a vibrant destination for hospitality, heritage, events and luxury accommodation. Set amidst the rolling foothills of the Lammermuirs, and carefully conserved to respect its 19th-century origins, the steading blends rich history with contemporary use and bespoke modern infrastructure. Hubbub was engaged to provide the smart technology that underpins daily life across the site, delivering a future-proofed solution tailored to the unique demands of this mixed-use development. From the initial technology design and integration through to installation, commissioning and customer familiarisation, our aim was to ensure reliable connectivity, entertainment and ease of use throughout the main farmhouse and multiple cottages. We continue to support the clients as the project evolves.
A Connected, Comfortable and Flexible Space
At the heart of this project was the need to marry heritage character with modern performance, delivering technology that feels effortless and intuitive in both living and gathering spaces:
- A comprehensive network infrastructure, designed to support future growth and additional phases of development
- High-performance Wi-Fi delivered throughout the steading via multiple strategically placed access points
- Wall-mounted televisions in key reception, living and guest spaces
- Thoughtful system design that anticipates expansion as Papple continues to develop new uses and facilities
Residents, guests and visitors alike benefit from seamless connectivity whether lounging in the farmhouse, working in one of the cottages or hosting in the shared communal areas.
A Heritage Destination with Modern Amenities
Papple has been sensitively restored to maintain its sense of place and history. Originally a working farm steading dating back to the 1800s, it is now a multi-faceted destination combining luxury self-catering accommodation, cultural spaces and hospitality venues, including the recently opened Eve's Court café, restaurant and wine bar, within its historic walls. The site also hosts the prestigious Richard Demarco Gallery, celebrates agricultural heritage and serves as a backdrop for community events, creative retreats and bespoke experiences.
Future-Proofed for Growth
Papple's visionary restoration continues, with plans to expand exhibition spaces, community uses and facilities that draw on the estate's deep cultural and agricultural roots. Hubbub's structured and scalable technology framework ensures the development remains adaptable, whether supporting new accommodation, event spaces or immersive media experiences tied to the site's heritage. This project stands as an inspiring example of how sensitive architectural conservation can be paired with modern living and hospitality, all underpinned by technology that enhances comfort, convenience and connectivity without compromising character.
