Hubbub is a smart home installer based in Edinburgh, serving Edinburgh, East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothian. We design and install whole-home Wi-Fi, home cinema and media rooms, multi-room audio, lighting and motorised blinds, CCTV and security, access control, networking and smart control, and the structured cabling that ties them together.
What sets us apart is the kind of building we work in. Most of Edinburgh's housing stock is older than the technology going into it. We have built a business around the homes other installers walk away from: listed Georgian terraces in the New Town, Victorian villas in Morningside, stone tenements across the city centre, country estates across East Lothian, and the renovations and conversions that lie between them. The clean new build is the easy job. The listed steading on a sensitive site is where we earn our keep.
Built for buildings that need a soft touch
Smart home technology in a sensitive building is a different problem from the same install in a modern home. Sandstone walls block signal in ways stud walls do not. Lath and plaster ceilings cannot be cut without thought. Listed building consent means every chase, every fixing and every cable route has to be agreed with someone, often more than one someone. The installers who do this work well are the ones who plan before quoting, who walk the property with the architect or conservation contact, and who keep the install reversible wherever they can.
That is the work Hubbub was built around. Some of our most rewarding projects are in category-A listed buildings where the brief is to make a twenty-first century home but leave no trace. Papple Steading in East Lothian, our featured project on the home page, is a good example: full Wi-Fi coverage, CCTV, multi-room audio and Elan control across a multi-building heritage site, with no visible cabling anywhere.
How we work
Walk the property first. Before any quote we walk the home with you. We want to see the rooms you actually use, the places where things are not working today, and the cable routes you are willing to lose. In listed and period properties we bring the architect or conservation contact into the conversation early.
Design before we kit-spec. The conversation about what to install only matters once we understand the building and how you live in it. We design Wi-Fi heatmaps, draw cable schedules, agree socket positions and rack locations, and write a proposal you can challenge before any work starts.
Install with respect for the building. Cable routes through service voids and existing chases. Access points and keypads in finishes that suit the rooms. Fire hoods on every in-ceiling speaker as a matter of course. Documentation handed over at completion so the next trade in the cupboard knows what is what.
Support after handover. We monitor the networks and systems we install.* Most issues we fix before you notice. The rest we respond to the same day.* The relationship is ongoing, not transactional.
*Available to clients on an active Hubbub maintenance contract.
Where we work
Hubbub is based in Edinburgh and we cover Edinburgh, East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothian as standard. We take projects further afield in Scotland on referral, particularly where the brief involves listed or heritage work. We work in private homes, in hotels and B&Bs, in short-let properties, and in small commercial and hospitality venues across the region.
Our project map ranges from one-room media installs in Edinburgh tenements through to whole-property fit-outs in country houses, with plenty of architect-led new builds and conversions in between. If you would like to talk to a previous client as a reference, ask us on the call.
The brands we work with

We specify the kit that suits each brief. The names we go to most often:
- Control and automation: Elan via Nice ELAN OS 9, Rako, Lutron RA3.
- Audio: Bluesound, Sonos, architectural in-ceiling and on-wall speakers from leading specialists.
- Lighting and blinds: Rako (authorised installer), Lutron RA3, Silent Gliss motorised blinds.
- Networking: Ubiquiti, Araknis, TP-Link, Zyxel firewalls and intrusion detection.
- CCTV: 4K cameras with on-site network video recording, person and vehicle detection, remote access.
- Access: Yale, Salto and architectural multi-point smart locks; 2N video intercoms.
- Structured cabling: Cat6a copper, OM4 multimode fibre, properly terminated and tested.
If you have a preference, we are happy to work with it. If you want a recommendation, that is part of the design conversation.
