Voice Activated Software Solution for a Client with a physical disability
Project Overview
At Hubbub we believe technology should empower everyone, not just be convenient. For this special project, we worked closely with a client living with a physical disability to design and deliver a voice-activated software solution that dramatically improved their ability to interact with everyday technology and stay connected with the world around them. Every aspect of the system was customised around the client's needs, with the aim of making digital communication, entertainment and home systems easier and more accessible. By combining spoken-word interfaces with powerful software and carefully chosen devices, we created a hands-free solution that allows the client to control key functions simply by using their voice.
What We Delivered
- Custom configured laptop with enhanced processing power to support robust voice control of core functions including email and everyday computing tasks.
- Voice-activated text messaging to mobile phones, enabling messages and communications to be sent without typing.
- Voice-controlled SONOS music system so audio playback throughout the home can be started, stopped or adjusted by simple voice commands.
- Video door entry integration, allowing the client to view and interact with visitors at the door using voice control linked back to the central system.
These features were tailored to the client's specific abilities and routines, giving them more independence and confidence in their everyday life. Many mainstream accessibility technologies, such as voice recognition and dictation software, are now widely available, and when carefully configured they can open new opportunities for people with limited mobility or dexterity.

Voice-activated technology is part of a broader class of assistive technologies that help bridge gaps in traditional interaction methods. For individuals with physical limitations, systems that can interpret spoken commands or convert speech into text can transform how they work, communicate and control their environment.
